Applying For an ETA
If you are a canda eta citizen, you should apply for an eTA before you travel to another country. You must apply for an eTA at least a month in advance of your travel date. You can apply for an ETA online and wait for approval in just a few minutes. However, if you receive a rejection email, do not resubmit your application. This will cause another charge to be made to your credit card. Instead, follow the instructions included in the email.

An eTA costs $7 and is valid for five years. The process only takes a few minutes and requires a valid passport and an e-mail address. Once approved, the eTA will be linked to your passport and is valid for five years or until your passport expires. Although most eTA applications are approved automatically, a small number of cases require a manual review by a Canada border services officer.
Canadian citizens and lawful permanent residents of the U.S. must apply for an eTA if they plan to travel to Canada. However, Canadian citizens who are from other countries and who are not U.S. citizens must also carry a valid passport or other legal identification that proves their status as a lawful permanent resident of the U.S. They should also bring a valid eTA.
The Government of Canada has updated its regulations to make it easier for foreign nationals to travel to Canada and apply for an eTA. It has also made a new application form and online instructions available in multiple languages. In addition, the amendment will eliminate the USLPR status requirement for eligibility in the eTA program. The amendment will also invalidate any existing eTA that was issued on the basis of USLPR status. Holders of invalid eTAs will be notified electronically and informed of what documents they need to present when flying to Canada. This change will not affect the validity of an eTA if it is renewed in a timely manner.
